On behalf of and in collaboration with the Christoph Merian Foundation, we have carried out numerous studies over the past years on the future development of the Dreispitz area in Basel. Through individual case studies and overarching urban design investigations, strategies were developed to demonstrate how the transformation of the industrial site into a mixed-use urban district can be achieved. The work was based on the “Plan Guide Dreispitz” by Herzog & de Meuron.

Dreispitz is envisioned as a growing and continuously evolving organism. Rather than being defined by a rigid, top-down master plan, the transformation process is to be guided by a set of supporting rules. This approach allows for flexible responses to future societal and technological developments.
